The workflow “From Photo to 3D Mesh” is a specialized pipeline used by digital artists to transform 2D flat photographs into high-quality, fully rigged 3D character heads. It leverages the unique strengths of three industry tools: FaceGen Modeller for instant facial approximation and automated texturing, Daz 3D for anatomical rigging and mesh conforming, and Blender for advanced animation, custom sculpting, and photorealistic rendering. 1. Photo-to-Mesh Generation in FaceGen

The process begins inside FaceGen Modeller (or FaceGen Artist), where you upload a primary front-facing photograph and optional profile shots.

Feature Mapping: You place manual markers on key facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, chin).

Mesh & Texture Generation: FaceGen calculates a 3D head mesh matching the photo proportions. It simultaneously generates a skin texture map that eliminates shadows and highlights from the original photograph.

Export Strategy: Since FaceGen’s standalone mesh topology does not match standard animation rigs, the software allows you to export your creation natively targeted to Daz Genesis meshes (such as Genesis 3, 8, or 9). 2. Mesh Conforming and Rigging in Daz 3D

Once exported from FaceGen, the asset is brought into Daz Studio to convert the static mesh shape into a functional, skeletal-rigged character.
